How To Get Your Vehicle Registered In A New City

Relocation is in itself a very complex process. While we keep busy shifting and moving the belongings, we tend to forget about the vehicle’s registration in the destination city. But it is imperative to do so. We only realize it much later after we face some issues in checking. So, why not do it beforehand with some quick steps so that no such issue crops up later?

Vehicle Registration In New City

We hereby explain to you the steps and procedure that you need to employ in order to get your vehicle’s registration done-

No Objection Certificate application:

The very first step to this is to obtain a no-objection certificate from your previous state that the authorities there do not have any problem or any ill records of your vehicle in that place and that it is competent enough to be re-registered.

Example:  For instance, if you are moving from Lucknow to Delhi, then you need to have a no-objection certificate issued by the Lucknow RTO office so that they do not have any issues with your vehicle’s re-registration. There’s a transfer of ownership that takes place in this process.

Also, a confirmation or say verification is needed by the old police station to check if the vehicle has any pending cases in its name or if it is stolen or an object of theft, etc. Further, they check if there’s any kind of amount that is yet to be paid by the owner like Road Tax, etc. And if there is any such thing, like the amount due with the bank then you need a NOC from the bank too for bank hypothecation.

Other Documents Required:

Getting the NOC is not enough, once that is done, you need to procure other documents too in order to ensure the smooth movement of your vehicle in the destination city.

The list of such documents is inclusive of vehicle smart cards, pollution control certificates, vehicle insurance papers, etc.

Lastly, the most important document is the original invoice of your vehicle which you received when you purchased it. It is important for the calculation of road tax that you shall pay throughout your entire life after the re-registration of your vehicle. This deduction of road tax shall be calculated on that invoice only.

Re-registration Process:

The No Objection certificate that you receive for your vehicle has always got a date of validity that expires.

And the process of re-registration in the new state needs to be filed within that valid time period. Now you need to fulfill the amount being asked as road tax which differs from state to state. And then you are good to go for the registration application.

RTO will ask you to submit some other documents too alongside the ones we mentioned here.

Two forms need to be filled, while one is for re-registration and the other is for change of address. Ahead of that, if you are the second owner of your vehicle, then filling out additional forms is also required so that your ownership is confirmed.
